Matthew 25 ... again!

Those of you who receive letters via snail mail from the Missionaries of Africa (missionariesofafrica.org), have probably seen a number of references to the scripture passage from the Gospel of Matthew 25:31-46. It’s been a part of our “call to action” for those who might wonder why we Christians (Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox, Charismatic, Evangelical or whatever adjective we might use) should reach out to those in need. Without a doubt, it gives a lot of strength to the statement that there is a lot more to Christianity than just believing! As Kate Brooks in her blog at “Pure Christianity” states:

Pure Christianity is going back to the basics -- caring, loving God and people. Remember the story of the sheep and goats? Sheep on the right, goats on the left. Why did Jesus give this analogy? He said that many will say, "When did we feed you? etc...." Perhaps we are supposed to be helping people.

He even goes as far as to say that some will cast out devils in his name but will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Ouch.

We are so afraid of a works mentality that we forget that we can't have faith with out it. "Faith without works is dead." We throw the baby out with the bath water. Isn't it better to save the baby? Can we really have too many works? I'm not trying to earn a place in Heaven, but because I have faith, I'm trying to live in the Kingdom now, doing Kingdom acts.

That is what Pure Christianity is about. It encompasses all that we do.

We also need to bear in mind the needs of the missionaries on the field. The people who are served in Matthew 25 don't have to ask for their needs to be met. It was for the lack of love, that the goats were sent off!

As a missionary myself, I do not ask others for support though I do make my needs clearly known. How they respond is up to them.

I have just posted a blog covering this isue.. Tuesday 22: Money, Missionaries & Matthew Chapter 25. Please do take the time to read and feel free to comment!

I also have a missionary game link on the same page. Have fun!
